At our meeting tomorrow we will be doing the following:

  1. Discuss Our Goals for Scouting in 2013 both adults and scouts. Think in terms of where you want to see yourself with ranks as well as outings.
  2. Neil and Ben will hopefully each get time to meet with Mr. Pohl who will be arriving at 6:30.
  3. Discuss the new merit badge program.
  4. Resolve any date conflicts for outings during February and March.
  5. Of course some basketball :)

Upcoming Events:

Updated Information On Snowshoeing!

Hi All!

Our snowshoeing expedition is ago! I hate to do this to you guys but unfortunately we could only book the expedition Sunday, so I went ahead and did it. The Eichhorns have already confirmed they can attend Sunday, Seth, Jack, Mrs. Stanton and Mr. Rhoades did for Saturday, will this date change to Sunday work for you? Neil, you should also have the opportunity to go since this won't get in the way of your basketball trip now.

My father and I will also be attending. If those who said yes to Saturday can also go Sunday, that leaves us at 8, with 2 bringing their own equipment.

Please confirm if you're going and or renting shoes. Event Information is below.

This Saturday's Snow Shoe Expedition!

THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED FROM THE ORIGINAL EMAIL!

A Photo from the Purkersdorf Snow Shoeing Place.

Hi all,

After talking with the adult leadership, as well as with the PLC, and taking a look at the weather report, we've decided that instead of camping this Saturday, we'll be going snow shoeing if the weather permits or a hike.

What this means is that THIS SATURDAY, we will either be snow shoeing at Naturpark Purkersdorf (provided they're open) or have a back up plan to go hiking by the Eichhorn's or at AIS (Mrs. Eichhorn and group, tell me what you prefer.).

The snow shoe place I have found is in Purkersdorf (30 min. outsider of Vienna). It is a 2- 2.5 hours long hike and the place provides the equipment for 15 euros. If you have your own equipment that is fine too.

I have spoken with the place and reserved a place for us as long as there is snow. At the moment there is only 8- 9 centimeters, we need a minimum of 20 centimeters. According to the weather report there should be enough snow by Saturday but if not then we will go to plan b (hiking).

They will provide a guide as well and while they do speak a little bit of english, we will need your help, Interpreter strip people!

For now who is interested in attending this outing, this coming Saturday?

Either event, you will all be getting a list of clothes to bring (to use as a guide but if I forget something be smart and bring it ;))

Thanks,
Ben

Welcome To The New Troop 427 Website!

Dear Scouts, Leaders, Families and Friends,

Troop 427 now has a brand new website in blog format that will be the home to all of our meeting and outing information as well as many pictures and our calendar. Instead of sending out many emails in large chains, we will be posting on the Troop 427 blog. All scout leaders and PLC members will have access to posting on the website.

Whenever there is an event like a campout, a post will be made just like there were emails and any follow up questions can be made as comments on the blog post.

To stay up to date and notified you can subscribe via email, RSS Reader, or Facebook, on the right hand side. Doing this will send you notifications in your desired way every time something new is posted on our site

Advantages of the site include:

  • One page that can easily be followed and referenced with all of our campout information and advice well documented (No more surfing through emails to see what food to bring next campout or what we're doing next meeting)
  • It integrates with our modern day lives. Notifications aren't limited to email.
  • The blog presents an archive of everything our troop accomplishes.
  • Comments on posts keep us from having bundles of emails.
  • The active webpage provides an excellent way to advertise Troop 427.

I'm looking forward to trying this out with all of you! If the site does well, then awesome! If we find it's too hard or doesn't have enough benefits the PLC can vote to go back to E-mails!

Any questions please comment below!

Yours In Scouting,
427 SPL,
Ben D.
